As the Property Editor of the Sunday Express for 10 years and current contributor to the Times, The Daily Mail, Express online and the Sunday Telegraph's property sections, I am well versed in the subject of retirement property. I have seen how the market has mushroomed over recent years and the standards of properties provided for this age group improved.
Just before losing my mother in 2012 I was talking to her about moving from her seafront house in Bexhill on the Sussex Coast to a smaller property. During my research I found plenty of online estate agents and property listings but nothing that featured articles from respected journalists offering helpful advice, ideas and options. So it is in her memory that Retiremove was born.
However Retiremove is a lot more than a property magazine; green-fingered readers will be inspired by professional gardener Louise Midgley's tips, ideas and stories; there are sections on travel, finance, home improvements and interviews with celebrities and of course we want you to offer your thoughts, suggestions and contributions too.
Retiremove will soon have its own property portal offering you a selection of retirement apartments and houses all over the country to rent or buy.
In time we will also provide information and articles about care homes and nursing homes. My ex-serviceman father who suffered from Parkinson’s Disease, had to move three times before we found the right place for him. He spent the last year of his life in Mais House, a Royal British Legion home in East Sussex which had its own bar. Before he died in March 2013 he and his lovely chums road tested some gadgets designed for older people, the results of which are illuminating and fun and featured in our Technology section.
Retiremove is dedicated to providing you with articles and information about retirement property and lifestyle.
If you are seeking independent advice about downsizing, moving into a retirement village or investing in a property that will generate income for your grandchildren you have come to the right place.
You won't find the words 'old age', 'elderly' or 'infirm' on our site as we are either children looking to help our parents make the next move; influencers and advisers such as solicitors, accountants or GPs wanting to assist our older clients and patients or simply retirees looking for a new life and adventure.
With a third of the population destined to be over 55 by 2025 retirement property is already a hot topic; so it is important to have up-to-date information sourced by the best journalists in the country at your fingertips to help you make that next exciting move.
